How to communicate with a device for which a native communication driver is not available with Reliance

August 1, 2010

There are several possibilities:

Reliance is an OPC client. Thus, you can use an OPC server if it is available. OPC servers are usually provided by manufacturers of hardware devices or specialized third-party companies.

If the communication protocol is known, you can use Generic Driver. It is designed for data exchange through a serial port or Ethernet. Communication with a connected device is realized through special tags defined within the Generic device.

Reliance is a DDE client. Thus, you can use a DDE server if it is available. Formerly, DDE servers were usually provided by manufacturers of hardware devices or specialized third-party companies.
