Visualization and control of the treatment process at the Humpolec Wastewater Treatment Plant

In 2006, a new control system for the wastewater treatment plant in the town of Humpolec was implemented by DBD CONTROL SYSTEMS. The control of the treatment process is handled by a Tecomat TC700 PLC device.

The implementation of the control system includes:

• Preliminary treatment
• Primary and secondary treatment
• Blower room
• Sludge handling
• Gas supply
• Boiler room and the oil system
• Sludge regeneration

Control system

The Reliance 3 SCADA/HMI system allows the control and visualization of all treatment systems. For the emergency control and simple visualization of the treatment process in the event of
a failure of the control computer, an industrial panel computer is used. The control system is also equipped with a DATABOX (secondary data memory), which is used to temporarily store operating data.

The Reliance SCADA/HMI system allows the operator to visualize individual processes. The visualization windows display the states (operation, failure, open, closed, preset mode, motor run hours), measured quantities (current quantity, limit value excess, failure, historical databases), alarms with a time-stamped record, and electric energy usage (every electrical device's switching priority can be set). The Reliance system can also be used to generate balances and operation logs that can be edited with Microsoft Office. The predictive maintenance system is a very useful feature that allows the operator to set a maintenance interval for every actuator.

From the perspective of the operator, there are the following control options:

• Fully automatic operation with operator supervision
• Manual remote operation
• Fully manual operation

The Reliance system also enables the control of the electronic security system. In the event of a failure, a text message is automatically sent to the operator's cell phone. After that, the operator can display the respective visualization window and check the failure from any computer connected to the Internet. The operator can monitor the process or change a process parameter through the visualization project if needed. The system also provides parallel data transfer over the current radio telemetry network to the main control room of the wastewater treatment plant's operator – the VODAK Humpolec company.
