Visualization and control of the process of wastewater treatment at Our World Przno

Our World is a nonprofit organization providing social services to people with intellectual disabilities in combination with physical, sensory, and mental impairments. It was founded in the Silesian village of Przno in 2005 and has been operating there ever since.

This picturesque and family-friendly environment serves as a home to 142 clients, with an additional 39 clients living in the city of Frydek-Mistek. About 40 workers provide high-quality professional care, giving help and support with their hearts open and a smile on their faces. The clients get involved in everyday life as much as possible.

In 2020, a system for the control and visualization of the process of wastewater treatment was installed at Our World.

Control system

The system consists of a Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 central control unit and the Reliance SCADA/HMI system (Reliance 4 Control Server).

The control system is responsible for:

• Visualization and control of the process of wastewater treatment
• Monitoring of treatment-process data
• Monitoring of treatment-process operating states
• Control of pumps and blowers including the configuration of the operation time schedule settings
• Logging and graphical display of the process data

The application allows optimizing the process of biological treatment based on input quantities (the content of oxygen dissolved in water, flow of wastewater, water levels, etc.). The pumps and blowers can be controlled using either a time schedule or an oxygen probe. A pump can be started – for a selected period of time – directly from the application even outside the set program. All process data is continuously stored in a file database and can be displayed in historical trends.
