Visualization and control of the processes at the gas station in the town of Mohelnice

VENA-TRADE is a Czech company established in 1997. The company is a wholesaler and retailer of fuels, including fuel oils and biofuels. The company's retail business focuses on more than ten gas stations located in Moravia. It also offers some additional services in the field of fuel transportation and expert services in the field of economics.

In the second half of 2008, a system for the monitoring and control of the processes at the gas station in Mohelnice was implemented. While the control system was installed by the S&V ProIB company, Mr. Pavel Bednar was responsible for the installation of all hardware. To control and visualize the processes at the gas station, the control system and the Reliance SCADA/HMI system are used. The entire system consists of a control cabinet to which PLCs and distribution wiring are attached (located in the gas station area) and a computer equipped with Reliance 4 Control Server (located in the operator's room).

The Reliance SCADA/HMI system is used for the monitoring of

• Gas station processes (turning on/off the fuel dispensers, backlighting the fuel dispensers, vacuum cleaner, and compressor)
• Lighting of the gas station, outdoor lighting, CCTV camera lighting
• HVAC system (in every room, there is a temperature sensor on the basis of which the HVAC system is controlled; the operator can adjust the temperature)
• Fuel level in the tanks (minimum, maximum, and emergency fuel level states with visual and acoustic alarms, fuel leakage with visual and acoustic alarms; the owner of the gas station is notified of such events via email)
• Security alarm status (status of PIR-based motion detectors, door and window contacts, glass break detectors; the owner of the gas station is notified of an intrusion via email and, at the same time, the information on the intrusion and distress signals is sent as a text message to the operator's cell phone)
• Gas station alarm and emergency states

The implementation of the new control system also allows running the visualization application remotely through Reliance 4 Web Client. The possibility of accessing the visualization application from remote locations allows the gas station's owner to have the complete control over the application (he/she can display visualization windows with real-time data, control the visualized industrial process, display and acknowledge current alarms, display historical alarms and historical data as trends and reports).
