Reliance SCADA: Energy consumption at Honeywell Aerospace Olomouc

Honeywell Aerospace Olomouc is an aviation manufacturing company headquartered in the Moravian village of Hlubocky.

Since 1951, they have been designing, producing, and repairing aircraft engine parts so that millions of passengers can be transported worldwide on a daily basis. In terms of engineering, the company is one of the leaders in the aviation industry. Their products are used by leading manufacturers of passenger, cargo, and military aircraft.

In 2018–2019, a system for the monitoring and control of energy consumption was installed at the company's manufacturing facility.

Control system

The control system consists of a central Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500 PLC, remote Siemens SIMATIC ET 200S peripherals, secondary Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 PLCs, and an industrial computer equipped with the Reliance SCADA system's Control Server module.

The purpose of the visualization project is to:

Monitor the manufacturing facility's total energy consumption
Monitor secondary metering data (transformers, production lines, machines)
Monitor the total power factor
Control and monitor load-shedding data
Monitor the substations' climatic conditions
Monitor operating states (transformer protection, alarms, etc.)
Log process data
Generate monthly energy-consumption reports

The application's server version (provided by Reliance Control Server) runs continuously on the industrial computer located in the server room. Another two computers (desktop) are connected to the company's industrial network. They run the program's client version. This is provided by the Reliance Control runtime software, which allows controlling the server application from remote locations.

The visualization project is an important tool for production planning (energy consumption distribution) and failure monitoring throughout the entire power distribution system. It was also used for writing a thesis as part of the Design of Electrical Systems and Technologies degree program at the Technical University of Ostrava. Currently, the application is also used as an example project for students studying the subject Processes in System Reliance.
