February 11, 2019 | Reliance SCADA

Kloosterboer is a family-run business headquartered in the port city of IJmuiden in the Netherlands. It provides innovative and sustainable solutions in the supply chain for temperature-controlled food products.

With a storage capacity of more than 4,700,000 cubic meters and an annual throughput capacity of more than 3,500,000 tonnes of food products, the company is one of the market leaders in the food industry.

In early 2018, the Dutch company Chiron-tec B.V. implemented a new system responsible for the control and visualization of the processes of cooling and freezing at Kloosterboer.

Control system

The entire control system consists of three Siemens SIMATIC S7-300 PLCs and the Reliance SCADA/HMI system. It was implemented to reliably monitor and control the cooling engine room and the freezing plant.

The control system is used for:

  • Controlling and monitoring the cooling engine room (including the condensing circuit)
  • Controlling and monitoring the frozen-food storage rooms and tunnels
  • Archiving recorded temperatures and emailing log sheets to health officers
  • Displaying and printing trends
  • Email notification in case of an alarm
