Sauter EY2400 Communication Driver

Sauter EY2400 Communication Driver is intended for data connection between Reliance's runtime software and Sauter EY2400 devices. Communication with the devices uses the so-called “Spontaneous Reports”, which are data packets sent by the devices to a master system when the value of the selected tags changes.

Starting up the driver

The communication driver is a DLL loaded into memory by the Reliance 4 Driver Server program, which can be launched either as a Windows service at Windows startup or as a standard application at the start of a visualization project. Information required to make a connection with devices is read from the visualization project. After reading this information, communication to all connected devices is activated.

Establishing a connection with the device

The first communication packet sent to the device is the packet for establishing a connection. When the communication is in progress, this packet is also sent after the expiry of the configured time in which no data was received by the driver. This is the so-called “LifeTest” packet, which controls communication to the device.

Initializing the device

If the warm start parameter is not active, the device is always initialized when launching the driver and detecting the loss of connection with the device. This device is also initialized periodically at a specified time interval. The initialization provides setting the device's system time according to the current PC time, setting a hysteresis for analog measurement spontaneous reports, setting a bit mask for digital input spontaneous reports and setting spontaneous report priorities.

Reading data

The so-called “Forced Request” for sending current data is always sent after launching the driver and accomplishing initialization, respectively. When the communication is in progress, this packet is also sent after the expiry of the configured time in which no spontaneous reports with the given tag's current data were received by the driver. Thus, forced update interval determines the period of data update for tags whose values are not included in spontaneous reports.

Data capture

Data is always captured when reading or writing specific data is not requested. At a specified interval, a common query is sent to all devices. Consequently, a device with current data responds with spontaneous reports. The algorithm of automatic decrease of spontaneous query priority will provide data capture with high priority in case of larger amount of data with low priority.

Sauter components

In relation to adding Sauter EY2400 Communication Driver to the range of communication drivers, two new components are now part of Reliance:

Sauter – Time Program

This component allows for reading time programs from the Sauter EY2400 device, editing and writing the programs back to the device. Each time program can be copied, pasted and duplicated. Both program settings and its description can be saved on the hard drive where it is available for further use, e.g., in another device. The destination address and command values are also displayed. However, these can be hidden from a common user.

Sauter – Time Program

Sauter – Time Program

Up to 128 time programs can be defined. The component displays current information about the occupied and remaining free memory. The definition of a time program consists in selecting a device and determining a command, hour, minute and day on which the command should be executed. The component will calculate the size of the occupied memory area and generate data to be sent to the device.

Sauter – Holiday Program

This component is intended for reading, editing, and writing bank holidays back to the Sauter EY2400 device where the defined holidays can also be saved on the hard drive for further use, e.g., in another device.

Sauter – Holiday Program

Sauter – Holiday Program

Up to 16 holidays can be defined. The component displays current information about the occupied and remaining free memory. The definition of a holiday consists in determining a date and the type of the holiday.

These two components make it more comfortable when operating the Sauter EY2400 devices. Operators can thus use convenient tools for editing time programs and holidays with no need for deep knowledge of a data structure and the way the data is saved in the Sauter devices.
