How to communicate with a device for which a native communication driver is not available with Reliance?
There are several possibilities:
- Reliance is an OPC client. Thus, you can use an OPC server if it is available. OPC servers are usually provided by HW device manufacturers or specialized third-party companies.
- Reliance is a DDE client. Thus, you can use a DDE server if it is available. Formerly, DDE servers were usually provided by HW device manufacturers or specialized third-party companies.
- If the communication protocol is known, you can use External Communicator. External Communicator is a universal driver that enables you to send and receive any data over the RS232 interface from Reliance scripts. External Communicator is appropriate for devices with a simple communication protocol, since the actual protocol must be programmed in Reliance scripts.
