Visualization and control of the tire production line at the Pirelli plant in Izmit, Turkey

Pirelli is the world's fifth largest producer of tires. Presently, Pirelli is the operational holding company for groups involved in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of tires designed for various types of vehicles (cars, light motor trucks, motorcycles, buses, trucks, agricultural and earth moving machinery). Within this market, Pirelli focuses mainly on the high-end segments characterized by elevated technological contents and high performance. These are the segments in which Pirelli has established itself as the leader with regard to both its car and motorcycle tires. Today, Pirelli tires are synonymous with quality, emotion and maximum performance.

Control system

To visualize and control the tire production line at the Pirelli plant in Izmit, Turkey, a SCADA system was implemented in 2007. The HALICI ELEKTRONIK LTD STI company was responsible for installing the SCADA system. To control the production line and regulate temperatures of raw materials for the production of tires, a SIEMENS S7400 PLC has been installed at the plant. The control system was supplemented with the Reliance SCADA/HMI system, which, connected to the PLC, allows for the control of the complete tire manufacturing process including the regulation of temperatures of raw materials for the tire production.
