Control system of Schneider Meat Processing Plant, Pilsen

The Schneider Meat Processing Plant is among the largest producers of meat products in the Czech Republic. The company was founded in 1989. Construction of the production plant started shortly after its founding. The Schneider Processing Plant was built at an undeveloped location at the beginning of the nineties. Today, Schneider produces a wide range of meats, smoked meats and delicatessen. Cooked hams, smoked hams, sausages and seasonal meat products are the most popular.


A new control system for the Schneider Meat Processing Plant was installed in 2004. The whole SCADA-based control system consists of two PLC devices (Tecoreg TR300 and Tecomat TC600) and the Reliance SCADA/HMI system. The whole installation was carried out by the Czech company Tecont s.r.o. Reliance software is installed on the control computer located in the control room. Reliance provides control and visualization of the production technology and operation conditions of the Schneider Meat Processing Plant.

Heating system and hot water supply system


  • Boiler room – control of two hot-water boilers and four hot-water circuits
  • Boiler room – control and visualization of two steam boilers and steam network
  • Heating of the hot water supply
  • Steam heating of the hot water supply


Air-conditioning system


  • Control of the air-conditioning units used for air-conditioning of the production areas
  • Ventilation system of the Boiler Room
  • Ventilation system of the Machinery Room


Machinery room


  • Control of three York ammoniac compressors
  • Regulation of the ammonia level in the expansion tank
  • Control of the pumps used for pumping the ammonia
  • Control of the electric fans used for cooling of the condensor
  • Control of the cooling water pumps and heat exchanger used for preheating of the hot water supply


Cooling system


  • Control of thirty cooling units mounted on the ceilings of the cooling chambers and production areas
  • Measurement and indication of the temperature in the refrigerating rooms


Machinery room


  • Control and monitoring of the compressors


Further monitoring and measurement


  • Redundant detection of ammonia leaks in the production and technical areas
  • Control of power and water consumption

All technologies and systems mentioned above are visualized by the Reliance SCADA. Every technology has one visualization window. It gives operators the possibility to control a specific technology in a transparent visualization window. Time programs are also displayed and controlled by Reliance. Data from the processes are stored in the Reliance database. Historical data can be displayed on the LCD display or printed. Reliance also provides displaying and acknowledging current alarms and events. Current alarms and events can be sent to any e-mail or cell phone.
